I found an old sugar cookie recipe and let me tell you these are the best sugar cookie in the world! They are soft days after you make them.
* 1 cup butter
* 1 1/3 cup white sugar
* 3 eggs
* 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (real vanilla is best)
* 3 1/3 cup flour
* 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover and chill for at least one hour, over night is best.
If you are not rolling out the cookies to cut them, don't chill just roll in to 1 inch balls and bake(you will need to watch the time on the not chilled cookies, I have not determined how long when the are not flat)
Pre-heat oven 400 degrees
Roll dough on flour surface 1/4-1/2 inch thick
cut with cookie cutter of your choice
6-8 min
when edges are turning brown they are done
Remember with all cookies do not take them off the pan once out of the oven they continue to cook for about 3-5 min, so they might seem really soft at first.
Place on cooling rack
once cool, decorate. Makes 30
This dough is sticky so make sure you have your flour handy when rolling, I also use some confectioner(powered Sugar) with the flour.
Skylar loves these as is, but next time I am going to add a little more vanilla and another cup of sugar to experiment.
This is what happens when you leave them on the table for the frosting to harden!
